Fire

Scripture Passage: James 3:5-6

Fire can be a good thing. We need it to cook our food. But if it gets out of control, it can do tremendous damage. Jesus says our tongue is like a fire. We can use it to praise God. We can tell people about Jesus. But if we are not careful, we can do a lot of damage. When we say "You are stupid", or "You are bad" our words hurt that person. Instead we should speak encouragement, such as, "It would be better to do it this way," or "What you have done is not good. It would be better to do it the right way." We must remember that God is listening and will judge us for what we say.

Questions:
1. When is fire bad?
It is bad when it is out of control.
2. Why is a tongue like a fire?
It needs to be controlled.
3. Who is the judge of what we say?
God is the final judge.

Memory verse: Matthew 12:37
The words you say now reflect your fate then; either you will be justified by them or you will be condemned. (NLT)
