Axe

Scripture Passage: Matthew 3:8-11

John the Baptist was preaching to the people. He told them to repent. God's punishment for sin was coming. God expects Christians to bring forth good fruit. Our fruit is listed in Galatians 5:22. If we are not producing these virtues by the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to fear God's axe. We need to repent and let the Holy Spirit rule our lives.

Questions:
1. What are we asked to do in verse 8?
To produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
2. What will happen to the tree that does not bear fruit?
It will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
3. Who will baptize us with the Holy Spirit?
Jesus Christ.

Memory verse: Matthew 3:6
And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. (NLT)
