What happens when people “see Jesus" for the first time?

Crowd of boys

A selection of short stories from around the world

Village Chief Has Change of Heart

A “JESUS” film team travelled to an area of Northern Togo, Africa—a region filled with voodoo cult members.

Aware of the team’s work, the village chief posted a sign forbidding “JESUS” film showings. But with the support of local authorities, the team was able to show the film.

The village chief even attended the showing, and God touched him as he watched the film. He decided to commit his life to Christ. Immediately afterward, the chief urged all villagers to follow his lead.

About 40 people said yes to “JESUS” that night; and most of them attended church the following Sunday.

Freedom Found Behind Bars in One Kenyan Prison

A “JESUS” film team in Mombassa, Kenya, was granted permission to show the “JESUS” film in the local penitentiary.

Together, prison wardens and inmates watched the “JESUS” film. They clapped and shouted when “JESUS” performed miracles. One prisoner even started crying when he saw “JESUS” being crucified.

When the film ended, the prisoner and fifteen other inmates trusted Christ.

Prison authorities said the group’s ministry made a great impact, and agreed that the group could visit weekly to follow up with people who had indicated decisions for Christ.

School Principal Learns Valuable Lesson

A “JESUS” film worker in Nicaragua asked the principal of a Christian school for permission to show students “The Story of Jesus for Children,” but the principal denied the request.

So the worker later talked with the principal’s boss. When she learned what the film worker wanted to do, she wrote a letter granting him permission to show “The Story of Jesus for Children.”

The next day, the “JESUS” film worker showed the film to students at the school.

For the final showing, all teachers were invited to watch. Afterwards, the principal approached the film worker and, with tears in her eyes, said she had placed her faith in Christ. She said she’d pretended to be a Christian to get the job—but now her faith was real!

CHURCH RESOURCE:

At the end of a service tell one of these stories. Then say: “Many people in our communities no longer have any meaningful contact with the church. These people right here need to “see” Jesus every bit as much as people in countries far away. For some of our neighbours, we may be the only representation of Jesus they’ll ever see. In the story I have just told, dedicated Christians took the time and effort to “show Jesus”, and people’s lives were changed. This week let’s do that too. Let’s show Jesus to those around us. And let’s see lives and our communities transformed!” Close with prayer.
